Subject:
Please make young people with nowhere to live a priority
I am writing as a local constituent in your area and a supporter of the Home Time Campaign to fix housing for young people across Australia. I believe that every young person deserves a fair chance in life - and this starts with a safe place to call home. It is time to make children and young people who are alone and homeless dedicated priority groups for policy and investment across federal, state and territory governments. The futures of 40,000 young people aged 15-24 each year can be changed by a greater focus on pathways back into homes with support, driven by housing and homelessness plans and backed up by policy, funding and investment decisions. This number includes almost 10,000 15-17 year-olds, who face particularly high levels of danger and harm while homeless. More than half are girls. This group is very vulnerable to harm without the safety and support that most of us and our own children have at that age. Please write back and share what you can do to support policy reform, investment and new housing pathways for unaccompanied children and young people. Please raise these issues in your party, parliament and the community when you have the chance.
